Deposits, dogs, winter chains, tee times, and how to find us up the mountain. If your question is not here, the front desk is a phone call away.

Before You Come Up

The things guests ask us most.

We would rather tell you straight than bury it in fine print. Here is how The Cascara actually works, from booking to the drive home.

You can request a stay through our contact page or by calling the front desk at (541) 329-9273, and we confirm your dates by email or phone. A deposit equal to the first night's room rate holds your reservation. It is charged when we confirm and applied to your final bill. Stay-and-play and wedding bookings may carry a larger deposit, which we always explain before anything is charged.

Cancel at least 7 days before arrival for a full refund of your deposit. Inside 7 days we refund the deposit less one night's room rate, and no-shows are charged the full deposit. Cabins, holiday weekends, and group bookings of four rooms or more use a 14-day window. Weddings and large events follow the terms in your signed agreement.

Yes, dogs are welcome in our cabins and in a set of designated pet-friendly lodge rooms, with a limit of two dogs and a cleaning fee of $40 per stay. We ask that dogs be leashed on the grounds and never left alone in a room. Dogs are not permitted on the golf course, in the spa, or in the Rivergrass dining room, though they are welcome on the Salmon Tavern patio.

We are open year-round. The lodge, spa, and Salmon Tavern run all winter, and the golf course closes when the snow arrives, usually from December into March. Highway 26 through Welches is plowed and maintained, but carry chains from November through April, because the Oregon Department of Transportation can require them on the pass. Government Camp and the ski areas are about 20 minutes up the road.

Yes. We host weddings in the riverside meadow with Mount Hood behind it, from small elopements to celebrations of around 150 guests. Packages run roughly $9,000 to $28,000 depending on season, guest count, and whether you take the full property. Most couples book 9 to 18 months out for peak summer dates. Our events team walks you through every step, and the pricing shown on the site is illustrative for this demo.

Arrive about 20 minutes early to change and settle into the soaking pools before your treatment. The cedar sauna and mineral pools are swimsuit-required and shared, and we keep them phone-free and quiet by design. Guests should be 16 or older to use the spa. We hold treatment times with a card and ask for 24 hours notice to cancel without a charge.

Yes. The river course and the par-3 short course are open to the public, and you do not need to stay with us to play, though resort guests receive a lower greens fee and earlier access to the tee sheet. The Salmon Tavern and the Rivergrass are open to the public as well. Booking a tee time or a Rivergrass table ahead is the safest way in on summer weekends.

The Rivergrass takes reservations and we recommend them, especially Friday and Saturday and for the Sunday supper. The Salmon Tavern is walk-in only, but we are glad to hold space for parties of six or more. You can request a table through the dining page or by calling the front desk, and we confirm most tables the same day.

We are at 68120 E Salmon River Road in Welches, Oregon, about 75 minutes east of Portland. Take Highway 26 east through Gresham and Sandy, continue through Zigzag, and turn onto Salmon River Road in Welches. Portland International Airport is the nearest major airport, roughly 90 minutes away. Cell service thins near the mountain, so download your directions before you leave Sandy.

Still Wondering?

Ask a person.

If your question is not on this list, the front desk would rather talk it through than have you guess. We answer the phone, we know the mountain, and we can usually sort a special request in a single call.

A note on this page: Rooted Coast Design put the real phone number and a direct contact link right beside the answers, because the fastest FAQ is often a short conversation with someone who knows the place.
