When Nathan and Claire Vance found the property in 2012, the fairways had gone to moss and the lodge roof let the rain in. They spent three years restoring it, keeping the 1928 stone hearth, the fir beams, and the bones of the original course routed along the Salmon River.
The Cascara reopened in 2015 as a place that feels less like a hotel and more like a friend's very good cabin, if that friend happened to have a championship golf course out back.
